Vitamin B is a collective name for eight water soluble vitamins that play important roles in cellular metabolism. Long ago it was thought that a vitamin B compound, but later research showed that various substances were often occur together in foods. Dietary supplements that contain all eight B vitamins, sometimes supplemented with related substances, vitamin B complex known.

There are eight vitamins that the vitamin B group are considered, namely:

* Thiamin (Vitamin B1)
* Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)
* Nicotinic acid and nicotinamide (Vitamin B3)
* Pantothenic acid (Vitamin B5)
* Pyridoxine and five related compounds (Vitamin B6)
* Biotin also called Vitamin H (the name is hardly ever used vitamin B8)
* Folic acid and folate (the name vitamin B11 is rarely used anymore)
* Cobalamin (Vitamin B12)

Many of the following compounds were once regarded as B vitamins and have a number in the series ever assigned. When after a while it appeared that these substances are not essential for humans, they're out of the vitamin B-series removed, leaving "holes" are created in the series B vitamins. Some of these substances is essential for certain animals, others are essential for any life form. Although as "not essential" to be considered in the sense that they are entering the body from other substances can be created, they may be nutritionally important. Its own synthesis may fail in some cases, the substances which are semi-essential.

Vitamin B7: "Vitamin I" of Centanni E. Later this substance also found in yeast. Possible candidates for this compound are inositol, niacin, biotin and carnitine. The term "vitamin B7" was later re-used by some researchers to biotin of using it.

Vitamin B8: adenosine monophosphate, and inositol are also regarded as vitamin B8

Vitamin B9: What once was considered as vitamin B9 showed a mixture of several B vitamins, which later became isolated. The term "vitamin B9" in Germany, France and the United States of America used to take folic acid to indicate.

* Vitamin B10: Vitamin B10, also called "R factor", and appeared pteroylmonoglutamaat (folic acid) to be mixed with other B vitamins. Some researchers used the term vitamin B10 to para-amino benzoic acid (PABA) of using it.

* Vitamin B11: Vitamin B11, also known as factor S, was related to vitamin B10. It was also found with vitamin B10-related properties and was later identified as pteryl-hepta-glutamic acid, a form of folate. In France, L-carnitine) also called vitamin B11.

* Vitamin B13: Vitamin B13 is a factor that can be isolated from whey. It was later identified as orotic acid.

* Vitamin B14: Vitamin B14 is not clearly isolated as a particular chemical. It was isolated from yeast, organ meats, cereals, legumes and eggs. Deficiency caused a form of anemia. It may be possible to vitamin B10 and vitamin B11 are related.

* Vitamin B15 (Pangaamzuur)

* Vitamin B16 Vitamin B16 is dimethylglycine (DMG) or trimethylglycine (TMG). It is especially in the former Soviet Union and was used to examine performance in athletes.

Vitamin B17 is any substance from the nitrilosiden family, including (amygdalin or laetrile). These substances are found in seeds, sprouts, beans and grains.

Vitamin Bw - a sort of Biotin but not d-Biotin
