Fatty acids promote the absorption of other nutrients, serve as fuel for energy and as a building block of cell membranes and nerve tissue. Also, a raw material fat for the production of prostaglandins and related substances. These hormone-like substances help to regulate many processes in the body. They are more involved in hormone and cholesterol metabolism, blood pressure, immune function, blood clotting and cell division.
Quality
The quality of fatty acids is determined by many factors, from harvest to the final product. Intensive monitoring and surveillance of the quality of the raw materials are a prerequisite to bring quality products to market. Also, the packaging is of importance, because fats can oxidize relatively rapidly.
