Iodine Biologically is derived from biological tuberculosis which is naturally a rich source of iodine.
The product is standardized to contain 150 mcg of iodine per capsule. Iodine is an essential trace element that plays an important role in our thyroid function and is necessary for the production of thyroid hormones. Through these hormones (thyroxine / T4 and triiodothyronine / T3), iodine contributes to a normal energy metabolism, partly by supporting the activity of certain enzymes involved in the release of energy from fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Also, iodine contributes to normal cognitive function (such as memory, concentration and learning ability) by supporting thyroid function. Finally, iodine is important for the nervous system and the skin.
Iodine occurs in nature in our world seas. On the land, the amount of iodine in the soil is very unevenly distributed. The best natural nutrient sources of iodine are therefore all products that come from the sea, such as fish, seafood and seaweed. Seaweed is by far the most sustainable source due to its widespread appearance and high growth rate.
The seaweed used in iodine Biologically is rootweed (Ascophyllum nodosum). It is won by producer Seaweed & Co from the clean sea around the Hebrides (a group of islands for the west coast of Scotland), biologically and sustainably. After harvest, the knuckle is processed using patented production methods that keep the original nutritional value of the animal intact. In addition, each batch is analyzed for iodine content and purity to ensure that it meets the highest quality requirements. The iodine content in seaweed can vary widely. Both too low and too high iodine content is undesirable and therefore it is important to choose a seaweed product with a recurring determination of content. In addition, Seaweed & Co is the only seaweed manufacturer in the world to produce DNA Authenticated Seaweed ™, which confirms the provenance and high quality of their specific knotweed by means of DNA testing by an external party. Iodine Biological of Vitals is a whole food and no extract. The capsule contains the "whole" knotweed with besides iodine also traces of other naturally occurring minerals.
The seaweed is biologically certified based on the quality of the water and the degree of durability of the cultivation techniques. Routinely, the water is analyzed. An important part of sustainable cultivation technology is that only the upper part of the seaweed plant is used for the production of Ascophyllum nodosum. Thus, the entire plant is not removed, preventing it from growing after 2 to 4 years. This is further monitored and verified by the 'Crown Estate Scottian Environmental Protection Agency' and 'Scottisch Natural Heritage'.
Did you know that?
Did you know that Ascophyllum nodosum is often called kelp, but that is not actually? Kelp belongs to another order and family, called Laminariales .
