What is vitamin C?
The exact name of vitamin C is ascorbic acid, either anti-scorbuut acid or the acid that counteracts scurvy (scorbuut 'is another name for scurvy). Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin, which contributes to the protection from oxidative stress and, therefore, also an antioxidant. Vitamin C is also a so-called co-factor for various enzymatic processes. The substance is distributed in the water phase of the body, incorporating all no fat or bone tissue.
The concentration of vitamin C in the brains is ten times as high as in the blood. The highest concentration is found in the white blood cells and platelets. The adrenal glands, pituitary, testes and ovaries contain any particularly high concentrations of vitamin C.
